DriveGreen presented at the ICT Innovations conference in Ohrid
On 3 October 2015 the DriveGreen team presented its interdisciplinary approaches in development of smartphone application at the 7th ICT Innovations conference in Ohrid, Macedonia. The presentation was a part of workshop 'User needs in ICT research with a focus on health aspects', organised and chaired by Emilija Stojmenova Duh, a member of the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Electrical Engineering and a researcher in the DriveGreen project.
At the workshop Dan Podjed, the project's principal investigator, explained that environmental consciousness is not the most relevant motivating factors for changed mobility habits. According to the ethnographic findings, more people do, however, emphasize financial factors, for example, the savings that could be achieved by more sustainable transport modes, e.g. by using a bicycle or by walking. They also mention the health benefits and lifestyle improvements that would follow if they changed their mobility patterns. All these findings will be used in preparing the smartphone application, which will be the main result of the DriveGreen project.
Finally, the presentation in Ohrid explained that the DriveGreen R&D approaches, based on one side in the humanities and social sciences, and on the other side in the engineering, can be relevant for development of user-friendly products and services and that the humanities can offer a competitive advantage when it comes to the development of new, society- and environment-friendly technologies and solutions.
